He who goes forth bearing seed and weeping [at needing his precious supply of grain for sowing] shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.  Psalm 126:6

After a neighbor suggested we watch the Back To Eden Film, we watched it and were inspired to begin our version of a Back To Eden Garden.  This page will show you our progress, struggles, failures and successes, as well as list other places where you can learn more about this gardening method.

Garden Photo Update!

May 13, 2014 Update

We have some plants coming up!  Pumpkins, watermelons...I planted strawberries and they are producing.

I think all my herbs got frost bitten, so I purchased oregano, parsley, basil and sage, as well as a few tomato plants and bell peppers.

My corn is coming in nicely.  Wont be long before I'll be able to plant our family bean!  So excited to be planting this heritage family heirloom crop this year!

I had a lettuce mix coming up, but it looks like either a rabbit or the squirrels got to it.  I'm so frustrated with squirrels its ridiculous.  They dig through my garden all the time looking for their misplaced nuts!  Grrrr....

Hopefully, I'll be able to ward them off with a homemade wire cage to protect my lettuce.  I'll be experimenting with that soon, and I'll post pictures once it's installed.

Our potato patch is growing tremendously...at least the plants look good and healthy.  Hopefully we'll have a bountiful harvest of nice big Irish Cobbler potatoes!

Here is a view of all three garden beds looking toward the Well Shed and back of the house.  The plot we chose is surrounded by trees.  We figured this would allow the spring sunshine to get the garden started, and then shelter it somewhat from the blazing summer sun.  I don't know if you can see it, but right up against the Well Shed we planted some above ground potatoes.  The are covered with dead leaves and then with mulch.

We have a new strawberry patch!  It went in just behind the potato patch!  The potato patch is located to the right (in this photo) of the first two beds (shown below).

There are two beds here.  The first one is bordered with some timbers Ronnie found in the yard.  The second is not bordered at all.  There are some sheets of cardboard with mulch over the top of them as a walkway between the two beds.

To the right of these two beds, we planted a full bed of seed potatoes!  Irish Cobblers!  Mmmmm....

The next photo is of our melon patch!  We put this one closer to the back fence and well away from the other beds because we know how melons like to spread out.  We also planted some pumpkins in there!

This is the film that inspired us to change our gardening practices.  Previously we had done container gardens and square foot gardens.  My Garden is set up a s a square foot garden without the raised bed, and using the Back To Eden method.
